QIA loses world cup broadcasting rights tender

(MENAFN) Qatar Investment Authority (QIA) said that it lost the tender to obtain the broadcasting rights to the FIFA Football World Cup for a Swiss sports channel, reported Arabian business.

QIA stated that, Bridgepoint Capital, private London-based, was ready to pay USD707 for Infront, media company, that has the World CUP broadcasting rights. The authority did not save any efforts to control the hosting rights for World Cup especially that it would take place in Qatar, QIA added.

On the same matter, Qatar based Media Company Al Jazeera won the rights to broadcast the French Football from 2012 through to 2016 which caused some unease regarding the Channel’s services since it doesn’t have a good platform in Europe.

It is worth mentioning that Philippe Blatter who is the nephew of FIFA president Sepp Blatter’s tried to refute some rumors regarding briberies claims after Qatar become World Cup host.
