Saudi’s SRO awards rail deal to Saudi Archirodon

29 Dec 2010

(MENAFN) Abdul Aziz Al Hoqail, President at Saudi Railway Organization (SRO), said that it has awarded a contract to Saudi Archirodon, valued at $101.9 million, for the construction of dual railway lines between Riyadh and Dammam for passenger trains by the end of 2011, in a bid to help the smooth operation of speed trains, Trade Arabia reported.

According to Al Hoqail, the proposed speed trains with a speed of 200 km/hour would reduce travel time between Dammam and Riyadh to less than three hours, and the dual railway system for both passengers and goods will be completed within one and a half years.

Moreover, in a bid to help improve railway safety and facilitate traffic flow, SRO is constructing 28 bridges over the Riyadh-Dammam railway to do away with level crossings that have caused several accidents in the past.
