(MENAFN) The Chairman of the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority (SCTDA) said that the emirates tourism activity is expected to grow by 5 percent this year after recording a growth of 9 percent in the second half of 2009, Khaleej Times reported.
Contrary to statistics issued by the World Tourism Organization which estimated a growth of 3 to 4 percent for tourism in 2010 as compared to the figures of 2009, the number of tourists coming to Sharjah in the second half of 2009 showed 9 percent growth, the chairman affirmed.
The SCTDA has appointed Canada-based International Hospitality to measure the compliance of hotels and hotel apartments with its criteria for each category as per the classification law, he said.
