(MENAFN) Moustafa Khater, Regional Business Optimization Manager at Shell Marine Products, announced that Royal Dutch Shell is set to launch bunker operations at the UAE’s Jebel Ali port in mid-2011, in an effort to expand its marine fuel business in the Middle East over the next three to five years, Reuters reported.
According to Khater, the company, which operates in more than 800 ports worldwide, is currently delivering only lubricants to the Jebel Ali port by trucks.
Shell will set up one of the highest capacity barges worldwide in the oil blending centre and will offer fuels and lubricants to vessels both on a long-term contract and on a spot basis, explained Khater.
Apart from the UAE, the oil giant is eyeing other locations in the Middle East for an expansion of its bunker operations, and is also aiming to boost its jet fuel sales in the region, he said.
