(MENAFN) Saudi Telecom Company (STC) CEO, Saud al Daweesh, stated that the company expected to bag a deal for a mobile operating license in Syria regardless of the delay in the auction process which was caused by the uprisings going on in Syria, reported The National.
Al Daweesh also said that STC was very interested in becoming the third telecom provider in Syria. He pointed out that although the company received no reply from Syrian authorities, STC was certain of winning the bid.
The CEO added that the deal was very important to the Saudi telecom giant as it sees strong growth potential in the Syrian telecom market.
It is worth noting that other telecom companies were competing for the license such as Etisalat, France Telecom, Turkcell and Qatar Telecom, the latter being STC’s only remaining competitor.
