(MENAFN) Etihad Rail CEO Richard Bowker said that the company selected US-based Electro-Motive Diesel (EMD) to build freight locomotives to be used on UAE’s national rail project, reported Arab News.
Bowker said that under this deal, EMD would develop design and manufacture seven heavy haul freight locomotives that would be delivered by the end of this year.
This project is one of many that would support Etihad’s delivery of the project in 2013. The deal in subject is worth USD10.9 billion.
It is worth noting that EMD would contribute to the development of a route in the Western Region which would mark the first phase of the 1,200 km mixed-traffic network that will span across the Emirates.
