21 Feb 2011

(MENAFN) Emeriti Major General Obeid Al Ketbi said that the UAE Air Force inked an agreement with the United States-based company, Sikorsky, for the upgrading of the force’s Black Hawk helicopter fleet for USD270.4 million, reported Arabian Business.

Al Ketbi also stated Sikorsky won another deal worth USD17.6 million for conducting training and navigation assistance with the UAE’s helicopters.

The deal for upgrading the fleet includes work on 23 utility helicopters that would be used for other purposes than military work including transportation, humanitarian, and military work.

This deal was announced at IDEX, the UAE exhibition. It is worth noting other deals were concluded in IDEX like the USD150 million deal with local cargo airline Maximus to provide freight services to the UAE armed forces.
