(MENAFN) The Chief Executive Officer of Union Railway, Richard Bowker, said that the railway network project is urged to be completed at the Middle East Rail 2011 Conference which would take place in Abu Dhabi, reported Gulf News.
Bowker said that the 1,500 km Union Railway would connect all 7 emirates as well as connecting the UAE with Saudi Arabia via the Ghweifat border and Oman via Al Ain border.
The CEO said that the railway project had been built in phases over several years and it is scheduled to be delivered by the year 2014.
According to the CEO, the USD10.8 billion Union Railway would have heavy freight trains running at speeds of up to 120km/h, while passenger trains would run at speeds of up to 200 km/h.
