(MENAFN) Dubal, the UAE’s government owned smelter said that the country was able to produce around 4.1 percent of the world’s total production of aluminum after its yearly output in 2011 reached 1.8 million tones, reported Emirates 24/7.
Dubal added that the country’s output of the metal accounted for 51 percent of the total production in the Gulf Cooperation Council, adding that around 90 percent of the country’s output was imported by more than fifty countries.
It also said that the company’s output capacity of aluminum in 2011 reached 1.02 million tones whereas annual output from Abu Dhabi’s Emal smelter reached 750,000 tones, and the figure was expected to reach 1.3 million tones once expansion operations complete in three years.
It is worth noting that out of USD180 billion of non-oil industrial investments, the GCC states invested around USD30 billion in aluminum smelters.
