(MENAFN) UAE’s Etihad Rail’s CEO, Richard Bowker, said that the company awarded a contract to China South Locomotive & Rolling Stock Corporation Limited (CSR) in order to supply 240 covered wagons for the carriage of granulated sulfur in the Western Region of the country’s capital, reported Arab News.
Bowker added that the company, which was the main developer and operator of the UAE’s national railway network, partnered with Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) to establish the 266km route that would convey 22,000 tons of granulated sulfur a day from sources in Shah and Habshan for export in Ruwais.
He also said that construction operations on the first phase of the network would be planned to start at the end of 2011 with the first freight trains scheduled to be on the tracks by 2013.
It is worth noting that CSR is a leading company in the realm of rail transportation. It will provide covered wagons for carrying the sulfur in a safe and efficient way.
