(MENAFN) Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) unveiled the TRUSTae initiative to improve consumer confidence in e-commerce, Arabian Business reported.
The announcement was made at GITEX in Dubai. TRA said that its national electronic trust mark was focused on promoting the online retail market as a secure and safe environment.
To win the TRUSTae seal of approval, online businesses will be required to follow a strict code of conduct that provides reliable electronic transaction communications.
The number of e-commerce customers in UAE rose to 42 percent in 2010 from 29 percent in the year before, according to a MasterCard survey on online shopping in March, and yet 45 percent of UAE consumers said they still did not feel secure shopping online.
