(MENAFN) Abu Dhabi Ports Co (ADPC) stated that a new port will be set up on Delma Island to serve the Western Region, reported Arabian Business.
The facility will comprise 300-meter concrete wharf for heavy loads, floating docks to serve over 280 boats, in addition to buildings and terminals for fishermen, sea sports, passenger ships and services.
In September, Abu Dhabi started operations at a multi-billion dollar port facility in order to diversify its oil-based economy.
ADPC noted that when fully established, Khalifa Port and its adjacent Khalifa Industrial Zone would be 2-thirds the size of Singapore.
It is worth noting that in the January-September period of 2012, vessel movements in ADPC ports jumped by 16 percent to 22,477 from 19,434 in 2011’s same period.
