(MENAFN) Abu Dhabi’s government had talks with German carrier Lufthansa over the future of Air Berlin, while it’s engaged in debts and many difficulties.
Lufthansa’s Chief Executive Carsten Sphor was in UAE during the week, as part of the business delegation by German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
Earlier, Sphor was speaking in the sidelines of annual shareholders meeting and confirmed that Abu Dhabi government was aware that Air Berlin’s debt, costs and anti-trust issues remain obstacles to Lufthansa taking over the rest of the struggling airline.
However, the Chief Executive said: “The debt problem can only be resolved by the government of Abu Dhabi.”
