Algeria’s wheat imports signed USD1.7 b in Q3

(MENAFN) Algeria’s wheat imports increased year-on-year by 14.5 percent to USD1.7 billion during the third quarter of this year, Xinhuanet reported.

The North African nation’s wheat imports increased by 4.2 percent to 4.8 million tons, compared to 4.6 million tons at the same period last year.

In Algeria, wheat, which is essentially to make bread,cost USD1.29 billion for a quantity of 3.806 million tons of wheat in the third quarter of 2013, against USD1.03 billion for 3.514 million tons of wheat in the same period of 2012.

Algeria’s local wheat production fell to 4.91 million tons during the harvest season of 2013, which was driven by a drought that hit five provinces.
