Arabtec-led consortium wins USD2.9b Abu Dhabi airport contract

(MENAFN) Abu Dhabi government has landed a contract on an Arabtec Holding-led consortium to build a mid-field terminal at Abu Dhabi International Airport, Reuters reported.

The USD2.94 billion contract was awarded to the consortium which includes Greek Consolidated Contractors Co and Turkey’s TAV Insaat, Abu Dhabi Airports Co (ADAC) said in a statement.

Construction of the complex will begin in the third quarter and is expected to be concluded in 2017.

The expansion project will be built on a 700,000sqm area, and will initially handle 30 million passengers per year. It will be the future home of Abu Dhabi’s Etihad Airways.

ADAC said the project will be worked on two phases, the four-year construction phase and the operational readiness assessment phase to undertake tests.
