(MENAFN) Bahrain Air Trade Union’s chairman, Abdull Raoof, stated that employees of Bahrain Air who were laid off in February will receive a combined payment of USD5.8 million, reported Arabian Business, citing Gulf Daily News.
The chairman added that the staff that lost jobs following the carrier’s closure may begin receiving severance packages this week.
Abdull Raoof noted that unionists failed to reach an agreement with the carrier for a extra one-month’s salary for each employee for every year they had worked.
According to the Bahrain-based newspaper, payouts to the airline’s 345 employees range between USD1,855 and USD371,156.
It is worth noting that Bahrain Air’s accumulated government debts of more than USD45 million forced the carrier to stop all operations in February.
