(MENAFN) A report released by Bahrain’s aviation authority showed that passenger traffic at Bahrain International Airport recovered in the first quarter, after it saw a big drop a year earlier due to the political unrest that broke out then, Arabian Business reported.

The official data showed 12 percent increase in the overall passenger traffic at the airport to 2.06 million in the first quarter, while cargo increased 5 percent to 91,799 tons.

In April, a report by STR Global said that the Gulf island kingdom’s tourism sector showed some recovery in March, as occupancy more than doubled from a year earlier.

The report showed that Manama saw a 112 percent jump in occupancy rates to 45 percent, a 14.6 percent increase in average daily rates (ADR) and a 143.1 percent rise in revenue per available room (RevPAR) to USD97.96.
