(MENAFN) Marco Neelsen, CEO of Khalifa Bin Salman Port operator APM terminal, said that Bahrain will have new direct service shipping lines to the US, Malaysia, Thailand, Korea and China, starting in August, Gulf Daily News reported.
He added that it will be a weekly service provided by NYK from Japan and Hanjin from South Korea. The new direct line would save time of at least a week or more.
This also means that goods will be coming in to Bahrain faster and cheaper, a competitive advantage for the Gulf island Kingdom.
The move also cements Bahrain’s role as a logistics hub for the Northern Gulf, targeting countries like Kuwait, Iraq and Saudi Arabia, according to Neelsen.
