(MENAFN) Bahrain’s No.1 telecoms operator Bahrain Telecom (Batelco) has reached settlement with the country’s telecoms regulator relating to giving rivals access to international cable facilities, through an arbitration process, Arabian Business reported.
Batelco said in a statement that the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) has cut USD13.89 million fine imposed on the company to USD1.98 million.
The dispute has been long-running since 2009, when TRA fined Batelco for preventing other operators from accessing the country’s international data lines.
The TRA claimed Batelco had denied space to other operators to gain access to the landing station and considered reasons cited by Batelco for doing so as unjustified.
