DP World cargo volume down 7% in Q1

(MENAFN) DP World chairman, Sultan Ahmad Bin Sulayem, stated that the port operator took on 12.8 million twenty-foot equivalent units in the first quarter, a 7-percent drop from a year before, reported Gulf News.

Lower volume numbers were the cause of a decline in container handling in most of the world, except Australasia and the Americas.

The economic depression from developed regions such as Europe and the Americas, have affected trade volumes in the Middle East and Africa.

It’s worth noting that the majority of the trade volumes out of the Middle East are oil exports, which depends on the economic prospect of importing countries
