(MENAFN) Dubai Duty Free (DDF) executive vice chairman, Colm McLoughlin, stated that the company’s sales in 2012 rose 10 percent from 2011, reaching USD1.6 billion, reported Arabian Business.
McLoughlin said that in December alone, sales hit a record USD168.48 million, driven by single day sales on December 20 of around USD20.95 million.
In 2012, 23.5 million sales transactions took place, with a daily average of 64,200.
The top selling category was perfumes, whose sales jumped 13 percent to USD246.87 million.
Meanwhile, all DDF retail areas posted growth in sales, with Terminal 1 posting a gain of 7 percent, Terminal 2 fifteen percent and Terminal 3 a rise of 11 percent.
It is worth noting that DDF launched its new operation in Concourse A at Dubai International Airport, the world’s first A380 terminal, with a retail area of more than 8,000 sq m, bringing the retailer’s total retail footprint to 26,000 sq m.
