(MENAFN) Dubai’s Department of Economic Development (DED) announced that the number of licenses it issued last month rose by 9 percent from 2012’s same period to 1,428, reported Emirates 24/7.
The DED said that the increase was driven by strong economic activity in the emirate.
It added that the number of licenses issued in the commercial sector surged by 69 percent from a year earlier; furthermore, licenses issued in the professional sector grew by 28 percent.
Meanwhile, licenses issued to firms in the tourism sector rose by 2 percent, and those issued in the industrial sector went up by 1 percent.
It is worth noting that DED amended 5,937 licenses in January, and renewed 8,085.
