(MENAFN) Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Shaikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, stated that in 2012, the number of visitors coming to the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) grew by 12.5 percent from 2011, reported Gulf News.
Shaikh Hamdan, who is also the Chairman of the Board of DWTC, said that the center received over 1.85 million visitors.
Furthermore, the number of exhibitors rose by 5.5 percent on annual basis to 36,996 firms using the events as a trading, promotional and sales platform.
He added that these firms came from more than 130 countries, whereas visitors came from 186 countries.
Of the total attendance to the center’s major exhibitions and conventions, 38 percent comprised foreign visitors.
It is worth noting that the DWTC adds over USD1.76 billion to the emirate’s economy, which is 2.1 percent of its total gross domestic product (GDP), according to a 2011 study.
