(MENAFN) Dubai Airports’ chief executive, Paul Griffiths, stated that passenger traffic at Dubai International jumped by 14.6 percent to 5,559,760 last month from 4,852,139 in 2012’s same month, reported Gulf News.
Griffiths attributed the figure, the highest in a single month, to January’s holiday, in addition to Dubai Shopping Festival that took place during the same month.
Meanwhile, cargo volumes rose by 8.6 percent to 188,520 tons, compared with 173,531 tons recorded in January 2012.
As for aircraft movements, the airport posted an increase of 5.6 percent in the month to 31,332 from 29,680 movements a year earlier.
It is worth noting that the fastest-expanding market in January was South America, with a rise of 23.7 percent, followed by the GCC at 21.8 percent and Australasia with 21.3 percent.
