(MENAFN) Alstom-lead European consortium won a USD231.6 million contract for the Al Sufouh tram project in Dubai, Arabian Business reported.
The 13-year maintenance contract was awarded by Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) to a consortium comprising France’s Alstom Co and the Emirati-Belgian Cofely-Besix Co., including an option for a five-year extension.
The maintenance contract covers the rolling stock and fixed installations under phase 1 of Al Sufouh tram project.
RTA CEO Mattar Al Tayer said the contract also has the potential of awarding Alstom the maintenance deal for phase 2, which includes providing 14 additional tramsets, a 5km-long track and six additional stations.
Dubai Tram project was approved last October by Dubai ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and will span 14km along Al Sufouh Road, and is set to be the world’s first to run with ground power feeding the entire line.
