(MENAFN) Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) said the first phase of a USD66.9 million water reservoir project in Dubai has been completed on schedule, Arabian Business reported.
The project, aimed at producing 120 million gallons of desalinated water, will enhance the total storage capacity in Dubai to 790 million gallons upon completion.
The state-run utility said the reservoir is one of several infrastructure projects to secure a reserve of water equivalent to more than two and a half days of daily consumption of Dubai.
Al Tayer said that the first phase of the project is completed, and we will begin the construction of the foundation as planned, before testing and launching two reinforced concrete reservoirs with a capacity of 60 million gallons each.
He added that the final phase of the project is slated to be completed in 14 months and will secure a reserve of water equivalent to 2.7 days of daily consumption for Dubai, which exceeds the original target of two days.
