(MENAFN) After years of turmoil, Egypt’s tourism sector had started to show signs of recovery, after the bombing of a plane carrying Russian holidaymakers in 2015.
Tourism Ministry Spokeswoman Omaima al-Husseini said: “There is an increase in the number of tourists. This situation was much better in January than in previous years.”
In detail, the largest numbers of tourists recorded were from China, Japan and Ukraine, while China’s top public travel agency reported a 58% increase in tourists flying to Egypt compared with 2015.
Egyptian Federation of Tourism Chief Karim Mohsen said: “There are more bookings between October 2016 and January 2017 than last year,” and he added: “There is an improvement, especially in cultural tourism in Cairo, Luxor and Aswan.”
