(MENAFN) Emirates Aluminium (Emal) is closer to becoming the world’s largest aluminium producer with its third production line becoming operational yesterday, The National reported.
The new line, which is part of the phase 2 expansion project, was finished three months before it was expected. It will bring the total production for the smelter from 800,000 tons per year up to 1.3 million tons per year.
The expansion project is part of the Abu Dhabi Government’s 2030 plan which aims at reducing the country’s dependence on oil and gas.
