(MENAFN) Emirates president, Tim Clark, stated that the carrier, which already has 90 A380s, mulls acquiring additional 30 planes of the model, reported Arabian Business.
Clark said that the UAE-based airline can afford buying that amount; however, it faces several obstacles, including the lack of space at its Dubai base in addition to curfews at destination airports.
He added that the airline may launch A380 flights to Houston, Los Angeles and San Francisco, noting that the economics of Houston are very powerful, which would be a very attractive proposition.
As Dubai is expected to surpass London’s Heathrow and become the world’s biggest global hub, Dubai Airports has invested USD7.9 billion to increase capacity, with the number of passengers Dubai International Airport projected to handle by 2015 reaching 75 million and growing to 98 million by the end of the decade.
At the start of 2013, Dubai launched Terminal 3, a new concourse that would handle the A380 planes, featuring 20 gates, 4 of which are operational at the current time.
