(MENAFN) Emirates airline, the Dubai-based carrier announced on its website that it has halted its flights to Damascus until further notice, reported Emirates 24/7.
The company attributed the move to security reasons around the Syrian capital’s main airport that may jeopardize the safety of passengers and crew.
It stated that daily EK913 and EK914 services to/from Damascus were suspended with immediate effect, adding that passengers holding tickets to/from Damascus are advised to contact their local Emirates office and check the status of their flight below, where information is updated every 5 minutes.
On Thursday, rebels battled forces loyal to President Bashar al-Assad just outside the capital, forcing the closure of the main airport road, with the fighting along the road to the facility, located southeast of Damascus, becoming heavier.
