(MENAFN) Etihad Airways’ President and CEO, James Hogan, stated that during the current year, the Abu Dhabi-based carrier has carried 10.29 million passengers, reported Emirates News Agency (WAM).
Hogan said that the figure represents an increase of 1.88 million passengers from last year’s 8.41 million, and exceeds the company’s target for 2012 of carrying 10 million passengers.
He added that in the year, the airline has started services to 6 new destinations, namely Tripoli, Shanghai, Nairobi, Basra, Lagos, and Ahmedabad.
The CEO noted that the passenger growth for Etihad is reflected by its equity partners, including airberlin, Virgin Australia, Aer Lingus and Air Seychelles, with the 4 expected to have carried 33.4 million passengers, 19.5 million, 11 million and 241,000 passengers respectively in the year.
Thus, the five carriers will have jointly carried over 74 million passengers in the period.
In 2012, Etihad Cargo’s tonnage volume jumped 18 percent from a year ago to 365,000.
