(MENAFN) Etihad Airways and Italian airline Alitalia and are anticipated to get clearance for their deal by the end of the year, Emirates 24/7 reported.
The deal is expected to be notified to the European Commission this month. It should be then given a conditional, phase-one clearance, this phase is set to last 25 working days, then get extended by 10 additional working days if other companies offer concerns in order to alleviate them.
However, the airlines may have also to give up some overlapping routes or airport services in case the Commission had any worries that the deal may reduce competition.
Etihad currently has daily flights from Abu Dhabi to both Rome and Milan, while Alitalia operates five flights a week from Rome to Abu Dhabi.
