(MENAFN) Etihad Rail has inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Dubai Industrial City (DIC) to set up a rail terminal within the City, The National reported.
The agreement will see the station linking DIC to the country’s other major industrial and logistics hubs and an important part of Stage Two of the national rail network, which will link DIC to the ports of Jebel Ali, Mussafah, Fujairah and the Khalifa Port in Taweelah.
It will also link the country to a region-wide rail network via Saudi Arabia and Oman.
The planned terminal paves the way for the destination to become the centre of non-bonded (non-free zone areas) transport in Dubai, Etihad Rail said in a statement.
Upon completion, the Etihad Rail network, which will cater to both freight and passengers, will span approximately 1,200 kilometres across the Emirates, connecting urban and peripheral communities, facilitate trade, open up communication channels and foster economic development across all Emirates in the UAE.
