(MENAFN) Etihad Airways plans to buy five Boeing 777-200 LRs aircrafts, the longest range passenger aircraft, from Air India, according to Gulf News.
A letter of Intent (LoI) was signed between Etihad and Air India in Mumbai this week to provide Etihad with 777-200 LRs.
Etihad will use the aircrafts in a new route between Abu Dhabi and Los Angeles that will start operating on June 1, 2014.
“The Boeing 777-200 LR is a fantastic addition, giving us extra reach immediately and complementing our long term fleet strategy,” said James Hogan, President and Chief Executive Officer of Etihad Airways.
“Our continued strong organic growth, boosted by the impact of our equity partners, has opened up new opportunities for additional destinations,” he added.
