(MENAFN) French engineering groups Egis and Systra were both granted a deal to design Saudi Madinat Metro project, Arabian Business reported.
The two companies were appointed by the Madinah Metro Development Authority to design a system that will have three lines (green, red and blue) and will stretch over 95km.
The consortium will work up feasibility studies and preliminary designs for the metro, including the preparation of tender documents for design and build contractors.
The Metro is due to come into service in 2020 and will be developed in two phases. It is part of an ambitious plan initiated over the past few years by Saudi Arabia to develop and modernize its transport infrastructure.
