(MENAFN) Fresh produce imports to the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) comprise 54 percent of the total imports in the Middle East with USD2.2 billion, Saudi Gazette reported.
Last year, fresh produce imported by the UAE was at USD1.145 billion from the total USD2.2 billion, while Saudi Arabia stood at USD825 million and Kuwait at USD164 million.
Project Manager at planetfair said: “import of fresh edible produce to the GCC have seen an upward trend and this could be attributed to the combination of the growing population in the region, increasing consumer demand for fresh ingredients and rising trend for healthy eating.”
