(MENAFN) Gulf States contributed in about USD1.6 billion to the USD24.5 billion global humanitarian aid registered last year, according to official statistics, Arabian Business reported.
The 20 percent rise in numbers was met with general failure to cope and to satisfy the increasing demands amidst struggle and long-term political turmoil across the region.
Saudi Arabia stands as the biggest contributor to the UN with about USD755 billion, ranking itself as number 10 in the list of top contributors, which is generally dominated by Western countries.
“Within humanitarian financing, there is a need to increase resources from more diverse donors, and bring about smarter means of delivering them,” the head of the Global Humanitarian Assistance programme at Development Initiatives said in a statement.
