(MENAFN) Habtoor Leighton Group’s (HLG) CEO, Laurie Voyer, stated that the company has been awarded a USD124 million contract to help set up a people mover system in Qatar’s Education City, reported Arabian Business.
Voyer said that the deal, awarded by the Qatar Foundation (QF), includes building a battery-powered tram connecting several sections of the Doha complex.
He added that the company will be in charge of designing and constructing track-work, in addition to tram stops, and a depot facility.
Work on Qatar’s first fully operational rail transports system is forecasted to start immediately and to be finished by 2015.
It is worth noting that HLG is a joint venture between Dubai’s Al Habtoor Group and Australia’s contracting giant Leighton Holdings.
