Iraq aims 32-km rail link to Iranian city

03 Jan 2017

(MENAFN) Iraq’s state-run Iraqi Republic Railways aims to join its port city Basra to Al Shalamcheh border terminal in Iran amid a 32-km long extension.

Meanwhile, many global firms have expressed interest in investing in the scheme, but IRR proclaimed it is still looking for potential investors.

The 32-km-long extension will help passengers pass between the two countries easily, particularly amid the pilgrimage seasons.

In addition, the rail extension will be lined to a global rail line in Iraq in order to involve the cities of Basra, Baghdad, Yusufiya, Musayyib and Karbala.
