(MENAFN) The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan has become the only country, thus far to select an airline carrier to fly its Olympic team and staff to and from London for the 2012 Summer Olympic Games, reported the Financial Times.

This marks the first time a British airline has chosen to sponsor a foreign team. The Secretary General of Jordan’s Olympic Committee, Lara Al-Jaghbeer said that with the current financial crisis sponsorship is necessary for the Olympic Team.

This year Jordan will send 9 athletes to the Olympics, the nation is also talking about possibly adding some wrestlers and the basketball team if they qualify. 14 athletes are also being sent to the Paralympics.

EasyJet began flying to Amman March 2011 and the discount carrier’s flights for a one-way ticket are currently priced at USD131.
