(MENAFN) The Jordan Chamber of Industry stated that in 2012, the country’s exports of pharmaceutical products climbed by 20 percent from a year earlier, reported Arabian Business, citing the Jordan Times.

According to Mohammad Ali Shahin, representative of healthcare-related industries and medical supplies at the chamber, pharmaceutical exports reached USD643 million in 2012, compared with USD503 million in 2011.

Shahin said that the Kingdom, which exports its medical products to nearly 65 markets, could see its revenue from pharmaceutical exports grow to USD1 billion by 2015, if these exports carry on expanding at the same pace.

It is worth noting that around 5,000 people are directly employed in Jordan’s medical industry, while another 3,000 are employed in related markets.
