ME adds 6.3m mobile connections in Q1

(MENAFN) Ericsson’s second Traffic and Market Report showed that during the first three months of the current year, 6.3 million new mobile connections were added across the Middle East, reported The Times of Oman.

The report, “On the Pulse of the Networked Society”, also revealed that 69,230 new connections were added on a daily basis, with the number of subscription reaching 266.3 million.

Half of the world’s population are expected to be covered by LTE/4G networks by 2017, while Smartphone subscriptions will reach almost 3 billion in 2017 from 700 million recorded last year.

On the other hand, 85 percent of the world’s population is forecasted to have internet coverage via 3G within the next 5 years, whereas mobile broadband connections will reach the 5 billion mark in 2017.

It is worth noting that mobile data traffic (voice and data) is forecasted to grow 15 times between 2011 and 2017.
