(MENAFN) Ericsson Middle East’s executive vice president and head of operations, Carlo Alloni, stated that in this year’s third quarter, mobile subscriptions in the region grew by 8 million to nearly 990 million, reported Arabian Business.
Alloni said that in the quarter, mobile penetration in the region reached one of the highest levels in the world, at 103 percent.
He added that by 2018, around 600 million new mobile subscriptions would be added in the Middle East.
He noted that strong demand for services, including mobile broadband, will drive growth for the near future, as users seek to connect through multiple devices and, so, multiple connections.
It is worth noting that the average mobile penetration rate recorded on a global basis in the third quarter was 91 percent.
