(MENAFN) Amadeus, the aviation technology firm, announced that competition in the Middle East’s aviation industry is the lowest in the world, reported Arabian Business.
The company said that just 1 or 2 airlines in the region serve 50 percent of total routes, adding that 10 percent of the region’s routes are served by 5 or more operators, below the global average of 18.2 percent.
It attributed the lack of competition to the region’s governments that own many of the carriers.
It is worth noting that competition in Asia is the highest in the world, with 49 percent of routes operated by at least 4 carriers, whereas Europe has also low competition, with 45 percent of its routes served by only 1-2 airlines.
