(MENAFN) International Data Corporation (IDC), the market intelligence firm, said that in 2011, governments’ spending on upgraded information technology (IT) systems in the Middle East would grow 10.5 percent over 2010 to USD6.52 billion, reported Gulf News.
The company added that a great deal of the amount that would be spent on the internet services would be driven by e-government initiatives, adding that departments that plan to introduce more online services would upgrade their IT systems.
It also said that changes in the IT services would help step up citizens’ usage of government services as they would be able to access services via fast and convenient methods and through less effort and time investment.
It is worth noting that the UAE and Bahrain are the top two countries in the region with e-government readiness over a five-year period, according to a 2011 UN report.
