(MENAFN) The MENA region is predicted to become the world’s second-largest gas importing area by 2040 and Qatar, which supplies 40 percent of the consumer nations.
Additionally, the consumption of natural gas in the region will grow from 480bn cubic meters in 2015 to 738bcm in 2040, which will continue as local gas output in most countries falls.
Egypt and Jordan received their shipments of liquefied natural gas (LNG) last year; Kuwait and Bahrain are aiming to build permanent importer terminals.
Moreover, imports by consumer countries in the region last year amounted to only 10.5bcm of LNG, of which 40 percent arrived from Qatar.
