(MENAFN) Arab Petroleum Investment Corp (Apicorp) stated that over the coming 5 years, the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region is expected to invest USD147.5 billion in power generation projects, reported Emirates 24/7.
Dammam-based Apicorp said that the investments would add around 123.9 GW of electricity, whereas the rest could cover water projects.
It noted that the 6 countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) are projected to invest over USD63 billion, representing 43 percent of MENA’s total power investments, in power projects in the 5-year period to boost power generation capacity to meet higher domestic demand.
According to an Apicorp study, in the medium term, the GCC is forecasted to post the highest power consumption growth in the region, at nearly 8.5 percent.
