(MENAFN) Saudi Ministry of Labour has set a minimum wage of USD800 for Saudi nationals, as part of the government’s Saudization drive, Arab News reported.
The paper said Saudi nationals earning USD400 will be viewed as “half workers” under the Nitaqat programme while those earning less will not be included in Saudisation quotas from February 2, citing the ministry.
The Gulf Kingdom is struggling to involve Saudis into the private sector jobs, and the government is pushing ahead with plans to encourage more private-sector companies to reduce their foreign workforce in favour of Saudis.
The private sector in Saudi Arabia is dominated by expatriates, as almost nine in ten employees of private firms in the Kingdom are non-Saudis, according to official estimates.
Earlier this month, Labour Minister Adel Al Fakieh said Saudi Arabia needs to come up with three million jobs for Saudi nationals by 2015 and six million jobs by 2030.
