(MENAFN) The US Defense Security Cooperation Agency announced that the Sultanate of Oman wants to acquire weapons systems from the US, valued at USD117 million, reported Arabian Business.
The agency noted that the deal includes several F-16 weapon systems, associated equipment, parts, training and logistical support.
The potential order, which still needs to gain the approval of the US Congress, comprises 27 AIM-120C-7 advanced medium range air-to-air missiles (AMRAAM), 162 GBU-12 Paveway II 500lb laser guided bombs, 162 FMU-152 bomb fuzes, 150 BLU-111B/B 500-lb conical fin general purpose bombs, 60 BLU-111B/B 500-lb retarded fin general purpose bombs and 32 CBU-105 wind corrected munitions dispensers.
It added that the possible sale would support the Royal Air Force of Oman’s (RAFO) current 12 F-16s, in addition to its continuing acquisition of 12 others.
Moreover, it would enhance the Sultanate’s capability to meet current and future regional threats, and boost RAFO capability to support both its own air defense requirements and those of coalition operations.
