(MENAFN) Saudi Arabia-Oman causeway project is set for completion by the end of the year, Arabian Business reported, citing former sultanate’s transport minister.
Jabarah bin Eid Al Surari said that he expected the new link to boost trade and tourism between the two GCC countries.
The stretch of road that connects Saudi and Oman via the Al Batha border will be around 519 kilometers long. It will pass through Saudi Arabia’s Empty Quarter, one of the world’s largest sand deserts.
Currently, the only way to travel between the two countries via road is by driving via the UAE, a journey of approximately 2,000 kilometers.
